Donostia-San Sebastián is located in the Basque Country,
on the Bay of Biscay (Atlantic Ocean), about 20 km from the French
border. It is a vibrant modern city with a population of 180,000,
which has the conveniences and comfort of a small city with many
of the advantages of a large capital.
One of the luxuries in Donostia is the wide variety of entertainment
and cultural events for a city this size. Donostia has a long tradition
of cultural activities. In addition to the Theatre Fair, Donostia
hosts world-class events including the International Film Festival,
the "Quincena Musical" Music Festival, the Jazz Festival,
the Fantasy and Horror Film Festival, the Advertisement Festival,
the prestigious Summer Course programme, and a number off smaller
weekly events at the various neighbourhood cultural centres.
Mecca of gastronomy (with such highly acclaimed chefs as Juan Mari
Arzak, Pedro Subijana, Martín Berasategi and Karlos Argiñano,
just to name a few), Donostia-San Sebastián is surrounded
by small fishing villages that cling tight to the deep-rooted customs
and traditions. Donostia-San Sebastián is easy to reach by
road, rail or air. The San Sebastián airport, located in
the town of Hondarribia, about 20 km from the city, offers daily
service to Madrid and Barcelona.
